The frequency of mowing is expected to increase <br /> as the growing season intensifies. A systematic mowing schedule in the spring, rain or shine, is critical in establishing <br /> healthy turf in the city's parks by preventing the grass from getting too tall and the clippings from smothering the turf. <br /> During the wet months of spring,crews use specialized mowers to prevent damage to the turf from heavy,bulky <br /> equipment. The mowers are smaller, more versatile and provide better traction than the average mower. Though mud <br /> often pumps onto the grass while mowing in wet conditions,giving the appearance that the mower is damaging the turf, <br /> the mud usually disappears in a few days as the rain continues. A legal ad will be published twice in both the Register-Guard <br /> and the Portland Oregonian. A walk-through for potential bidders is scheduled for May 7.
