The
new flight will depart from Eugene at 5:49 a.m. An additional flight back from San Francisco will arrive in Eugene at
11:39 p.m. Both flights will use regional jets with a capacity of 50 passengers, adding a total of 100 seats a day to the
Eugene Airport flight schedule.
The Eugene Airport and the local business community had requested an additional early morning flight to accommodate
'-rsiness meetings with same day travel, and desirable connecting schedules. According to Airport Manager Bob Noble,
ent United Express flights to San Francisco and Denver are flying with an average passenger load of 85% of
capacity, a good indicator there is strong demand and need for expanded air service.
The addition of these new United Express flights in May will bring the total number of daily departures and arrivals at the
Eugene Airport to 58, a 16% increase since last year. In March, America West added new non-stop service to Las
Vegas; in April, Horizon is adding additional service to Los Angeles with a stop in Medford. For more information, please
contact Bob Noble at the Eugene Airport, 682-5430.
Parks Crews Experimenting with Chemical-Free Weed Control System
Landscape and Turf and Grounds crews are getting favorable
results with an "eco-weeder," an environmentally friendly,
chemical-free weed control system. The system, which kills Xz *
weeds with radiant, infra-red energy, can be applied specifically ' - , ,
to weeds without causing damage to other, non-weed plants 'I~
nearby. The targeted application superheats the weed, searing
\e24
the vascular system of the plant. In short, the plant dries up
and dies. The new system appears to work particularly well on
young, annual weeds by disrupting the weeds' life cycle and ,mss
preventing the weeds from reaching seed stage and spreading. ,
Because of its specificity, the system can also be used in
sensitive natural areas, such as along rivers and streams. It
can also be used during the rainy season when other weed
ontrol methods, such as spraying, are not very effective.
EUGENE CITY COUNCIL NEWSLETTER PAGE 1
March 21,2033 cc032003_wpd
