February, several scouts, their parents, and parks staff constructed a
boardwalk and surfaced 400 feet of trail with gravel. The boardwalk utilized a relatively new foundation system in which
'tal pins are driven through and anchor to the ground, creating an exceptionally stable foundation. Another innovative
..mature of the project is that the decking of the boardwalk is made out of recycled, plastic lumber. The work was funded
in large part by a State of Oregon Recreational Trails Grant. For more information, contact Chris Girard at 682-4845.
Public Works Schedules Open House for Seasonal Employment Information
The Public Works Department will hold a seasonal employment information session on Monday, March 17, at 5:30 p.m.
in the large conference room at Public Works Maintenance, 1820 Roosevelt Boulevard. The open house is an
opportunity for potential applicants to learn more about the department and seasonal employment opportunities, meet
and network with hiring supervisors, and pick up application packets for these seasonal positions.
Each summer, Public Works hires between 35 and 50 seasonal employees who perform services such as parks and
grounds maintenance, building and custodial maintenance projects, concrete and asphalt projects, bike path
maintenance, street striping and curb painting, and wetland restoration and botanical monitoring. Applicants must be at
least 18 years of age, and the pay ranges from $8 to $14.65 per hour. While the seasonal positions are temporary, they
do provide excellent experience that can prepare entry-level workers for regular employment. For more information
about seasonal employment or the upcoming open house, contact Della Diller, Public Works Human Resource
Specialist, at 682-5076.
THIS WEEK
5:30 m BB, JS Police Commission
03/13 Th p McNutt Room
NEXT WEEK
""Spring Recess: March 13-April 8
03/18 T 6:00pm DK Human Rights Commission McNutt Room
03/19 W 5:00pm SM,DK,GP IGR Committee McNutt Room
03/20 Th Noon Citizen Involvement Committee Atrium/Sloat Room *"
03/21 F 10:00am SM Oregon Passenger Rail Advisory Cncl.
