Eugene Weekly —March 13, 2003 <br /> Eugene's7 <br /> Community <br /> ,,, Gardens progra i <br /> A place where people and plants can grow <br /> The Seeds <br /> Since 1978 Eugene's community gardens have been growing friendships, <br /> community involvement and an appreciation of the land by giving <br /> residents the opportunity to cultivate their own garden. <br /> The Land <br /> There are five community gardens with a total of 215 plots: <br /> Amazon at 27th and High, <br /> Mathews at 15th and Hayes, <br /> Whiteaker at the end of North Polk, <br /> River House at 301 North Adams,and <br /> Alton Baker at the east end of the Alton Baker Park parking lot. <br /> Planting the Seeds <br /> The average size of a plot is 20 by 30 feet.
