Recognition for this program is based on the City's"extraordinary efforts to protect and improve the local
-Watershed and help further national clean water goals."
The Clean Water Partner program recognizes the leadership role taken by local governments in improving overall
watershed health and the efforts that go beyond the requirements of the Clean Water Act. As an organization, the City is
actively engaged in a variety of activities dedicated to improving overall watershed health for the Upper Willamette
River, preserving local waterways, and fostering environmental stewardship through citizen education and involvement,
collaborative partnerships, and innovative programs.
Some of the stormwater fund programs that contribute to improvements in the local watershed include the erosion control
and construction site management program, Eugene Stream Team, stormwater monitoring program, flood protection and
drainage services, and the stormwater educational program. The West Eugene Wetlands program is a unique
partnership with federal agencies and The Nature Conservancy that has had national recognition for its achievements,
and the City's partnership with the Corps of Engineers has resulted in three major projects.
Eugene will be one of a relatively small number of agencies from across the United States to be acknowledged at a
special ceremony on February 18 at EPA's headquarters office in Washington, D.C. For more information about the
Clean Water Partner program or the City's stormwater management program, contact Kathy Eva, Public Information
Specialist, at 682-2739 or by e-mail at kathy.a.eva@ci.eugene.or.us.
Completion of Safety Features Allows "Soft Opening"of Fern Ridge Path Extension
The extension of the Fern Ridge Path around Meadowlark Prairie is substantially completed, and work is continuing on
the overlook and other amenities in the "1135"wetland restoration project area, generally south of Royal and east of
Greenhill Road.
