Robin Hostick, Parks Planner, has w, <br /> been assisting with the project and is now working on the Greenway <br /> Permit application for this and all other improvements proposed as - <br /> part of the Skinner Butte Park Master Plan. In addition to the project <br /> team work, there were two community workshops facilitated by local <br /> landscape architect, Kate McGee. The final design can be viewed on <br /> the Skinner City Farm website (www.efn.org/—scf). <br /> The fence posts around the community garden area have been erected. The next step is to pull wiring between the posts, <br /> which should be completed by early spring. A composting workshop was held for Northwest Youth Corps and CAT <br /> students. The students built and now maintain compost piles at the site. The area designated for community gardens has <br /> been tilled and planted with a cover crop of rye grain, fava beans, and bell beans. The cover crop will be plowed under in <br /> the spring to help restore the soil. Approximately <br /> 30,000 residential customers were provided with 65-gallon roll carts in which to place grass clippings, leaves, limbs, and <br /> garden discards. The carts are collected every other week with dedicated collection vehicles that deliver material to those <br /> compost facilities in Eugene which are permitted by the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality. Garbage rates for <br /> II customers increased by$3.20 in order to pay for the new program.
