Sow Skyview Park <br /> Phase:Project complete <br /> Skyview Park is complete and currently enjoying great popularity within the neighborhood. Park <br /> improvements include: concrete walks that wind through the park;nearby natural areas and a wetland;a <br /> boardwalk;a large,informal play field;a playground equipped with the latest in play structure technology; <br /> benches and other park furniture;and many new trees,shrubs and flowers. More than 100 neighbors and <br /> community leaders attended a grand opening celebration October 27. <br /> Trainsong Park <br /> Phase: Design and construction <br /> Volunteer efforts and grant dollars are expediting work and leveraging resources at Trainsong Park. A <br /> volunteer work party on June 13 produced 1,100 linear feet of soft-surface path,a new storage facility,and <br /> a spruced up playground and landscaping. Partners in this project included the Home Depot,Blackhawk <br /> Construction,Eugene Sand and Gravel,Cumulus Broadcasting,KaBOOM!,and a neighborhood matching <br /> grant. A September 11 Day of Caring Event,sponsored by the United Way,resulted in a new entry to the <br /> park,complete with a wooden bridge and path extension. The new entry connects the park to the <br /> American Red Cross facility to the north. Project partners included OBEC Consulting Engineers,Ken <br /> Marquardt Construction,and the American Red Cross. <br /> Proposals have been received for modular skatepark equipment,which will be installed on an existing <br /> paved portion of the park. Funding for the modular skatepark was secured through the Community <br /> Development Block Grant Program. The skatepark equipment is scheduled to be installed in mid- <br /> December. <br /> Construction documents are well under way for the remaining aspects of park master plan. Additional <br /> amenities include an expanded play area,a renovated ballfield,a small scale BMX track,additional <br /> Clow sidewalks,lighting and landscaping. Construction is scheduled for 2003. <br /> RIDGELINE PARK EXPANSION <br /> Acquisitions are on track to greatly exceed the Ridgeline Acquisition <br /> bond measure goal of 232 acres. Donations of <br /> land and cooperative efforts with other natural <br /> resource agencies have made this possible. An offer has been made but <br /> not yet accepted on a 9-acre parcel near Spring Boulevard,and an appraisal for a key large parcel near <br /> Bailey Hill Road has been completed. Successful negotiation and purchase of this larger parcel will result <br /> in the expenditure of most of the remaining ridgeline acquisition budget. <br /> Work on the trail maintenance portion of the$50,000 Oregon State Parks Recreational Trails Program <br /> Grant is ongoing,with work scheduled to be complete by the end of the year. Planning and design work <br /> for the new trail construction portion of the grant is continuing.This new trail will complete a long hoped <br /> for connection between the Amazon Parkway and the Ridgeline Park.Staff hired a retired US Forest <br /> Service trail expert to assist with trail alignment,and to help prepare the bid package for construction next <br /> year. Plans to construct the trail this fall were prevented by unforeseen zoning issues related to the newly <br /> adopted Land Use Code Update. Planning and public involvement have also begun on another trail <br /> segment which will connect Hendricks Park to the Ridgeline Trail system.
