This project is being built in conjunction with a recent joint City of <br /> Eugene and Corps of Engineers wetland restoration project and will offer overlooks and interpretive signing as a feature <br /> if the project. The 12-foot-wide path is being constructed of concrete and will have lighting along its length. A <br /> ....connecting path from the intersection at Terry Street and Roosevelt Blvd. will provide Bethel residents with access to the <br /> main path and an auto-free bicycle trip all the way to the fairgrounds. For more information on the path construction, <br /> contact Project Manager Bud DeSantis at 682-5230. <br /> Parks, Recreation & Open Space Comprehensive Plan Gets Jumpstart this September <br /> The City's Parks, Recreation &Open Space Comprehensive Plan process is well underway with several planning and <br /> outreach activities scheduled for September. The process, which started in July with the selection of a consultant and <br /> Mayor's Committee, is designed to chart the future for Eugene's parks, recreation, and open space system by soliciting <br /> public input and making recommendations to enhance neighborhood, community and regional parks, open space, and <br /> recreational facilities and programs. <br /> On Monday, September 16, staff and consultants will lead the members of the Mayor's Committee on a tour of the City's <br /> parks and open space system, including neighborhood parks, athletic fields, community centers, wetlands, and <br /> metropolitan parks. The purpose of the tour is to raise the committee's awareness about issues and opportunities related <br /> to the existing infrastructure and to solicit input about how the public perceives the current system. On September 19, <br /> the consultant and key staff will present an overview of the public involvement program to the Citizen Involvement <br /> Committee. A major public outreach effort is also planned for September 21-22 at the Eugene Celebration. City staff <br /> and members of the committee will staff a booth to solicit input on what the public sees as priorities for improving parks, <br /> protecting natural areas, maintaining parks and open space, and providing recreation opportunities. The booth will be <br /> located at the Criterion Gallery on West 8th Avenue. Councilors are encouraged to stop by. For more information, contact Cindy Clarke, <br /> 682-5285, or Diane Bishop, <br /> 682-5471. <br /> Road Repairs Scheduled on Bertelsen Road at Roosevelt Boulevard <br /> Work is under way on repairs to a badly deteriorated section of Bertelsen Road, including the intersection of Bertelsen <br /> and Roosevelt Boulevard. Eugene Sand &Gravel, working on contract with Public Works, will rebuild the intersection <br /> using concrete and repave Bertelsen Road with asphalt from about 100 feet north of the intersection to the railroad <br /> crossing about 1,300 feet south of the intersection. <br /> The intersection of Bertelsen and Roosevelt is scheduled to be closed at 7 a.m. on Thursday, September 19, and will <br /> reopen at 6 a.m. on Monday, September 23, to allow time for the concrete to be poured and fully harden. The work on <br /> Bertelsen Road will be done after the intersection reconstruction, with all work scheduled to be completed by the end of <br /> September.
