"Project Playground," a day-long work party, is
scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. this Thursday, June 13. Volunteers are invited to join Mayor Jim
Torrey, City Councilor Scott Meisner and event organizers in this comprehensive park
improvement effort. To participate, meet at the park located at the west end of Edison, off
Bethel Drive.
The City's Volunteers in Parks (VIP) program is coordinating the project. On the work
agenda is construction of a park storage facility and 1,100 feet of path, as well as clean-up of
the playground, tree wells and picnic areas. VP Coordinator Chris Girard says, "Many hands
and resources are coming together to make some significant improvements at Trainsong
possible in one day."
Among the organizations and groups that are contributing building materials, labor,
funding, lunch for the volunteers, and other supplies and services are Home Depot; Outback
Steakhouse; Cumulus Broadcasting; Blackhawk Construction; Eugene Sand and Gravel;
KaBOOM, a national, non-profit organization that focuses on playground development and
rehabilitation; and Trainsong Neighbors, through a grant from the City's Neighborhood Matching
Grants program.
Ili.
