City and private arborists assessed all trees affected by the reopening project,
determining that only these two trees were small enough to survive the extensive loss of root
system associated with transplanting. The excavation is scheduled for this Friday, March 29.
The trees will be stored for the evening and replanted the next morning on Saturday, March 30,
at 9 a.m.
Once completed, the newly opened stretch of Broadway will be replanted with 54 trees.
City planning and urban forestry staff have developed a new design for improving the soil and
planting area conditions for these new trees in order to enhance their potential to grow and
thrive.
For more information about this transplanting project, call 682-4800. For information
about the Broadway Opening project, call 682-5536.
L
