SEGMENT #2 Westmoreland Community Center - Fillmore Street Tree Planting
Fillmore street borders the Westmoreland Community Center and park. It is
located in a neighborhood of few trees. This street tree planting project will
enhance the street, provide shade for existing benches, and complement the
neighborhood's community center and park. The trees will create a more
attractive environment that will invite neighbors to use the park and community
center more often. There will be a mix of tree species such as Red
Horsechestnut, Zelcova, and Silver Lindens. In more open areas Oregon White
Oak and Douglas Fir may be planted.
SEGMENT #3 Moms Ranch Park - Crest and Lincoln Street Tree Planting
Crest and Lincoln streets border Morris Ranch Park. This natural park contains
wetlands, uplands, and provides an unique opportunity to enhance wildlife
habitat by planting street trees along this site. These trees will attract birds, be
suited to wetland and upland areas, and complement the natural character of the
park. There will be a mix of species such as Serviceberry, Hawthorn, and Crab
Apple for under wire areas. Oregon White Oak and Cedars may be planted
where there are no wires. These trees will be a buffer for the neighbors, frame
the park, and provide an attractive green element under wires and along the
streets.
Greenscape Plan I, complete with the three segments, will be another step in the continuing
advancement of Eugene's Community and Urban Forestry Program. Eugene remains a leader
in the development of a comprehensive Urban Forestry Management Plan that includes the
nationally recognized Neighborwoods Program, municipal codes for tree preservation,
community education, and a deep appreciation of the natural environment as evidenced by the
City's willingness to expend additional funds for this and other street tree planting projects.
