r
Bob Hammitt
Volunteer Program Memo
Page 2
I am not saying we cannot provide some level of support to both programs, but Urban Forestry was
given new direction and encouragement to utilize the support staff. It isn't right to make it logistically
unfeasible and inefficient for them to do that. After reviewing several of Scott's documents, I believe it
is crucial that the support staff continue to assist with the support functions of that operation.
Past experience tells me that moving them (Urban Forestry) away from the support staff will restrict
our involvement, just as placing the Volunteer Program near the support staff operation will increase
our involvement with that program. I guess the questions that need to be answered are, "How much
support staff involvement do you want with each program area, and how do we accomplish that most
effectively ? ".
I agree with Carrie's concerns about the traffic in and out of the front office. Often times, the
volunteers are picking up materials or equipment to accomplish their tasks. I would think housing them
in an area closer to those items or in a place that allows for storage of some those materials would be
more appropriate.
I will support whatever decision is made, but would hope that you would hear our concerns and take
them into consideration when making this decision.
