ARBOR CREW WORK PLAN <br /> PURPOSE <br /> The purpose of this paper is to provide interested parties with information <br /> relative to the work performed on city owned trees by city staff and to <br /> develop short term strategies concerning this work. <br /> GENERAL BACKGROUND INFORMATION <br /> The City of Eugene Arboriculture Crew's mission is to provide residents and <br /> visitors with a safe and aesthetically pleasing environment through the <br /> highest quality of management, care, and preservation of its urban forest. <br /> The crews mission is carried out by tree inspection, street and park tree <br /> pruning, street and park tree removal, tree stump removal, hazard abatement, <br /> and tree replacement. In an average year the crew will inspect 1,600 <br /> locations, prune 2,500 trees, remove 400 dead or deceased trees, remove 450 <br /> tree stumps and plant 100 trees. In addition, the crew will respond to <br /> approximately 500 tree hazard calls during the year. <br /> Tree crew personnel carry out the following programs on an on going basis; <br /> removal and replacement, Hawthorne removal and replacement, and street tree • <br /> watering. <br /> The above mentioned tree work is performed by 1 supervisor, 1 leadworker, and <br /> 6 tree trimmers. <br /> WORK AREAS <br /> BLOCK TO BLOCK PRUNING <br /> Tree crew members have implimented a work plan for block to block inspection <br /> and pruning. Our goal is to provide inspection and maintenance to all major <br /> streets and the downtown core area of the city. We feel public safety and the <br /> enhancement of Eugene's urban forest can best be achieved by working in this <br /> manner. <br /> The work required to accomplish these goals includes tree inspection, hazard <br /> abatement for immediate hazards, tree pruning, removal and replacement for <br /> those trees that show a potential hazard, and in fill tree planting. <br />
