MEDLIN Johnny R
From: MEDLIN Johnny R
To: BELLMORE Mike; BOUTELL Marge M; ETTER John F; HOSKINS Roland M; KROECK
Louis G; Luther, John; MCKERROW Mike J; MORGAN Dick A; NYSTROM Steven A;
PLAMONDON Scott F; STANSFIELD Adrian E
Subject: Urban Forestry Service Profile
Date: Tuesday, July 09, 1996 9:16AM
Hi Folks,
I was asked to give a little more detail on the meetings I notified you of yesterday.
The purpose of these meetings is the development of the Urban Forestry Service Profile. Over this series
of meetings we will be developing descriptions of the process systems we use to provide services, ( inputs
& outputs, idenitification of customer & stakeholders & suppliers, product outcomes, customer feedback),
mission and operating principals (values), performance measures (how well are we doing ?), current
operating environment (customer and stakeholder feedback), gap analysis, strategies, objectives and
determining future work activities.
This will be a very interesting and exciting process. For instance, several of you in the past have indicated
to me that specific improvements need to be made to this program (management of trees in natural areas,
tree maintenance by geographic area, park vs. street trees, land use & development review, lack of
enforcement for violations). Here is your chance to discuss these concerns and make suggestions for
improvements. This will be a prime opportunity to explore the Urban Forestry program and to determine
where the gaps exist. Your ideas and input will be extremely valuable in helping to chart the programs
future.
This project is a required activity by the Public Works Department Director and due to this, attendance for
the 10 consecutive weekly (Tuesday mornings 9 -12 in the PWM small conference room in Building #2)
meetings (July 23rd through September 24th) are mandatory for Public Works Maintenance personnel.
You may be excused from individual meetings by specific request. (John Etter, please see me regarding
these meetings.) Personnel from the other divisions are requested to attend the orientation meeting on the
23rd and will be requested to attend other of the meetings in which items specific to their interests in
Urban Forestry are discussed. However, you are welcome to attend any additional of the meetings as you
desire.
If you have additional questions, please give me a call.
Thanks
Johnny
Thanks
Johnny
Page 1
