■rr■■rmrow
Many respondents asked for better work space, looking for more room or "a quieter work space."
Noise and distractions were a concern for many; one respondent described the current work
space as "full of distraction and difficult to work in." Another noted that "the cubicle
environment, because of noise from others, reduces my productivity.
A number of respondents said they felt that their effectiveness would be improved with more
staff. A common complaint was "too much to do with too few people," and some worried about
not having "adequate staff to deliver quality customer service." Of particular interest to some
was "more support staff" because some respondents feel "they are stretched too thin."
Additional training was another common desire, including computer and software training
(including software that is not supported by ISD) and job - specific training. Of concern to some
was equitable access to outside trainings: "Only the supervisor goes currently," said one
respondent. Another suggested that managers "make outside training available to everyone in the
work group."
"Better" and "faster" computers were desired by some, as were laptops. "Additional software
when needed" was mentioned by others, who expressed frustration at making do without
specialized software such as graphic design programs: "I do a lot of graphics work and the
`paint' program is limiting and takes two -three times longer to use."
"Better communication" was suggested by some, including both "top -down and between
departments."
Some respondents were critical of their supervisors' skills or behaviors, suggesting that "more
effective leadership" was needed. One sought "a supervisor who is able to do the duties assigned
to him" while another wished for "a supervisor who had better people skills and was able to
communicate better."
18
