Hammitt, Bob
From: Medlin, Johnny
To: Boles, Shawn (UO)
Cc: Andresen, Trina; Foerstler, Kevin; Hammitt, Bob; Hubbard, Dick
Subject: Vegetation Issue at 1396 Charnelton
Date: Tuesday, July 12, 1994 3:58PM
Shawn, Trina Andersen forward your request for our attention to the issue from Brian Knowles regarding
vegetation at 1396 Charnelton. As it happened in this case, we were already dealing with the issue.
The following information was sent to me from Kevin Foerstler our vegetation program specialist:
"Regarding the property at 14th and Charnelton (1396 Charnelton): On June 29, 1994, Brian Knowles called in a
vegetation complaint concerning 1396 Charnelton. On July 5th the property was inspected and found to have tall
grass in violation of the " 10 inch" height requirement. On July 6th a letter was sent to the property owner
requesting that the violation be corrected within the next ten days. If the violation is not corrected in the allotted
time period (by July 16th) the City will initiate an abatement process to gain compliance."
Shawn, the above from Kevin is well within the procedure guidelines for this program. On an average (as is the
case in this instance) we perform a follow up inspection within two working days of receiving the vegetation
complaint. A courtesy notice giving the property owner 10 calendar days to correct the problem is then sent. In
the vast majority of cases this gains compliance. However when it does not, the property is then physically
posted with an "Intent to Abate" notice. By the code, the property owner then must be given 10 calendar days
from the posting of this intent to abate notice to correct the violation. If nothing is done in this length of time we
then issue a work order to our "on- call" vegetation contractor to complete the work. Usually the contractor will
respond within a week of receiving the work order.
I hope this was what you needed. Please give me a call if you wish additional information.
Thanks Johnny
Page 1
