N M a T V
If we make the decision to have them maintain the Chambers Connector fill
sections, then the Harlow Road, Norkenzie Road, Gilham Road, and Centennial
Blvd. fill sections should also be put under PARCS Department responsibility.
A benefit to consolidating would be to meet special event needs. Often special
events occur with the arrival of dignitaries at the airport. There currently
is not enough resource there to do quick, tidy -up projects for these events.
Consolidation would put more resource at the hands of the supervisor to
concentrate on a specific need or problem.
Another benefit to consolidating would be that each Division would not need
their own specialists. One employee could be the irrigation specialist while
another would be the turf specialist, etc.
EXISTING PERSONNEL RESOURCES
The airport has one person that does vegetation work as her major job function.
Other employees assist as needed, particularly during the growing season. The
full time employees are supplemented with summer help employees. A proposal to
add 2 full time employees to help supplement vegetation needs is being consi-
dered.
Maintenance Division uses two full -time staff to operate the flail mower and
slope mower that are pulled from street sanitation functions. Four summer help
employees are used to supplement the full -time staff. The Maintenance Division
also has a full -time vegetation inspector.
Waste -water Treatment Plant uses full -time staff, supplemented by summer help
employees.
I feel it is difficult to determine exactly how much resource is dedicated to
vegetation programs as all 3 division use the same personnel for other pro-
grams.
