The
reorganization will result in a much shorter response time in enforcing the
city's ordinance that requires property owners to control blackberry vines,
poison oak, weeds, and grass on their property and within the right -of -way
abutting their property.
Johnny Medlin, public works maintenance planner, urged property owners
to respond to the city's notices about mowing or removing vegetation as soon
as possible. The ordinance gives property owners 10 days from the time they
are notified to take care of the problem. The ordinance is enforced
throughout the year on developed property and from June 15 through September
30 on undeveloped property.
"With the limited staff and resources we have had in the past, we were
unable to consistently follow up within the time frame established by city
code," said Medlin. "By combining the duties of several programs, we now
have more staff available to dedicate to the program, shortening the time it
will take us to respond. So, if a property owners expects it to take the
same time for us to respond, they may find we have already mowed their
property and billed them for the work," Medlin continued.
more
