MEMORANDUM
November 25, 1987
TO: Terry Grondona
FROM: J.R. Medlin, Maintenance Planner
3E-
SUBJECT: VEGETATION MANAGEMENT - USE OF COMPUTER SYSTEMS
This memo is to continue our communications regarding the administration of the
Vegetation Management program which will be transferred from Public Works
Engineering to Public Works Maintenance effective January 1, 1988.
Some decisions concerning the program transfer have been made subsequent to the
meeting between staff from our respective offices.
Finance is currently using procedures that are working well, and I see no need
to change them. If problems develop at a later time, we can deal with them at
that time.
The Maintenance Division will use a mirco- computer database management system
instead of the Wang system used in the past. This decision was made due to the
following:
1. Your explanation of why input of data into the Wang system has not
saved data entry time at Finance in the past.
2. Finance does not require that we process billings on the Wang system.
3. The City of Eugene will discontinue use of the Wang system in two or
three years. If I am going to be forced to change systems in the
near future anyway, I would choose to do it now.
Thank you for your valuable input during this transition process. If you have
any questions or concerns regarding this transfer process, please do not
hesitate to call me 687 -5240.
THANKS
cc: Les Lyle
Bob Hammitt
George Jessie
David Biedermann
Val Dixon
