EUGENE I Public Works
Maintenance Division
City of Eugene
MEMORANDUM 1820 Roosevelt Boulevard
Eugene, Oregon 97402
(541) 682 -4800
(541) 682 -4882 FAX
Date: 10.18.99 U
+
To: Jeff Lankston 4
i
From: Robin Hostick
Re: Youth Sports Parks Budget Recommendations
Based upon a review of the preliminary cost estimate for the Youth Sports Parks, prepared by
Architectural Cost Consultants, and a subsequent in -depth discussion of the estimate during last week's
design team meeting, we would like to clarify our position regarding budget allocation for the parks
elements of the Youth Sports Park project. Having been directly involved with the preliminary budget
negotiations, as well as presentations to the City Council, we understand the level and quality of
development envisioned during this process. Our recommendations are aimed at supporting a
minimum level of adherence to this vision while seeking to streamline costs where possible.
During the preliminary budget negotiation meeting, at which the level of City contribution towards the
athletic fields was tentatively decided, we arrived at budget figures for park components of the youth
sports parks that were already at minimum levels. Any dramatic reduction in these figures would
threaten the integrity of the vision for these components.
In light of changing cost estimating circumstances, however, in particular an increase in soft costs over
the originally projected amount and the removal of a construction contingency from the construction
budget figures, we have made an effort to modify the design and cut project costs where possible, yet
still retain the most basic features necessary to support the vision of a Youth Sports Park.
Please refer to the the attached spread sheets for a summary of cost revisions to date and
recommendations.
END
