5. Least important?
• I am not going to say an individual sport that deserves the least attention, but please
consider how many facilities there are for the mainstream sports already.
6. A youth sport park will include many active facilities for group sports. What other park
facilities need to be provided in order to support the athletic component?
• bathrooms
7. What other considerations are important factors in assuring the success of this community
park?
• I think there were some excellent topics pointed out by each table.
• drainage
• maintenance
• irrigation
• fertilizer
• active communication w/ the youth this park is intended for
• access across both drainage channels
• spectator seating located adjacent to parking and street access and not near residential
• Considering that 4J will eventually build a new Cal Young Middle School building on the
same property, it would be more prudent to defer any major development of the Cal
Young athletic fields until the new school's dimensions are finalized. I think it would be
foolhardy to build elaborate athletic complexes on land that would be needed when the
new school building is designed.
8. Any other comments?
• I don't feel I have enough knowledge to contribute to a youths ports park. I am simply
interested in some funds being directed towards Gilham fields so they can be utilized.
• provide lights to allow optimal usage of facilities
• Skateboard parks should be built according to the "1990 Skateboard Task Force Report"
regarding site selection (highest: Amazon& Washington/Jefferson; moderate: Asscot .. .
etc.). So, no skateboard parks at Sheldon or Cal Young until priority sites are built.
Although middle schools are desirable site locations.
• At Cal Young build a skate bowl in the location of the existing gravel parking.
• Do not add more facilities, but upgrade existing.
• Either add more parking or design to force people to use parking to the south.
• I would rather you consider enhancing the Gilham School site and then, not intensifying
the traffic, noise, disturbances to the surrounding residential community by distributing
the dollar investment over several sites, rather than concentrating the effort toward a
"complex" at either Gilham or Cal Young. I am very much opposed to light towers,
sound systems, air horns and other invasions into my own back yard. Presently the noise
level along Crescent St. is an impediment to enjoying my back yard in the evening. It is
so loud already, we have a difficult time putting our 2 young children to sleep at night.
Cal Young Youth Sports Park
Introductory Meeting Page 6
