8. Any other comments?
• I would like to see a 3 -wall handball complex set up for adult use and kid use. A juniors
program is well underway nationally and I would like to see one here. The facility can be
used for racquetball, tennis and squash practice.
• Outdoor handball courts have been discussed in the Association for about 8 years. With
the passing of the Parks and Open Space bond in November it appears that now is the
prime time to pursue our goal.
EXISTING TRAFFIC, PARKING & NEIGHBORHOOD ISSUES COMMENT SHEETS
Participants were asked to fill out comment sheets dealing directly with school and event - related
traffic and parking concerns. Comments and suggestions are listed below:
1. CURRENT STRATEGIES
Do you think the current strategies are effective? Why / why not?
• As far as they go, probably. But you need to make sure they are enforced.
• Yes. I think these strategies would be effective. We would be willing to donate our time
to help keep the area cleaned & maintained.
2. POTENTIAL STRATEGIES
Do you have comments about the potential strategies? Do you have any additional ideas to
improve existing conditions?
• put "Local Traffic Only" signs up on Ole Gilham end of Monterey, Lamar, Marlow, Sally,
Jeppesen Acres, etc.
• City of Eugene issue parking permits to those neighbors in the affected areas and then
ticket cars parked in these areas that do not have permits.
• put up the fence around all fields
• I would really support "D" - the fence would do more to solving the parking problem than
any other single feature.
• Parking and event staff support is critical for the fans' enjoyment by being able to get in
& out quickly and without any confrontations.
3. FUTURE IMPROVEMENTS
What strategies would you suggest to address traffic /parking concerns as part of the proposed
Youth Sports Park / Multi -Use Field development projects?
• Do not build the new field unless all current issues are resolved
• Do not open Meadowlark Elementary's playground to more access (point C) to solve a
high school parking problem. Fix the problem at Sheldon in another way (see above).
The change if flow (re- routing exit) only moves the problem - doesn't fix it.
Sheldon Youth Sports Park
Introductory Meeting Page 5
