Workshop Report/Findings: CAL YOUNG <br /> Date: Tuesday, May 25t <br /> Time: 6:00 pm until 9 pm <br /> Participants: Approximately 25 <br /> Desired Benefits <br /> • Improving neighborhood and community livability; <br /> • Ensuring public safety in regards to supervision and traffic issues; <br /> • Contributing to a sense of community and neighborhood identity; <br /> • Providing positive, family- oriented, activities; <br /> • Providing social opportunities for youth and surrounding neighbors; <br /> • Providing an environment for multi - generational use; <br /> • Enhancing property values of residences located close to the facilities; <br /> • Providing a place to be active, have fun, do things that are positive <br /> • provides a community meeting place <br /> • Enhancing education opportunities through skill - building, leadership training, and teamwork; <br /> Preferred Facilities <br /> • Maintain existing level of use on facilities to enhance playability, such as drainage and irrigation <br /> for softball and soccer fields; <br /> • Develop new facilities, such as hard- surface and soft - surface paths, skateboard park, basketball <br /> court, practice boards for tennis or handball; <br /> • Include park -type amenities, such as children's play equipment, benches, and picnic areas; and <br /> • Provide adequate support facilities, such as restrooms, parking, neighborhood access, and <br /> signage. <br /> Neighborhood Impacts <br /> • Minimize impacts of increased traffic, such as by appropriate field scheduling; <br /> • Address the impact of noise and lights on surrounding neighbors; <br /> • Maintain or enhance the level of public safety in the neighborhood; <br /> • Ensure adequate parking to support the level of development; <br /> • Provide adequate buffers between surrounding neighbors and high- intensity uses; <br /> • Consider the development of fields at Gilham School to distribute usage throughout the area. <br /> FINDINGS <br /> Based on these comments, Parks Planning staff developed preliminary concept plans that include the <br /> following components: <br /> • Developing new recreation facilities, including: <br /> • Skatepark; and <br /> • Basketball court (1). <br /> • Providing park - related amenities, such as: <br /> • Picnic tables; <br /> • Benches, water fountains; and <br /> • Restrooms. <br /> In addition, Parks Planning staff are evaluating the feasibility of field improvements at Gilham School in <br /> conjunction with the proposed park development of adjacent City -owned land. <br /> D:\ANDREA \YSP \Yspais3.wpd <br />
