Workshop Report/Findings: CHURCHILL /KENNEDY <br /> Date: Saturday, May 15' <br /> Time: 8:30 am until 12 noon <br /> Participants: Approximately 30 <br /> Desired Benefits <br /> • Providing opportunities for youth, family, and community social interaction; <br /> • Building a stronger sense of community; <br /> • Providing healthy and positive activities for youth as alternatives to anti- social behavior; <br /> • Providing opportunities for personal health and fitness; <br /> • Providing diverse recreational opportunities to meet a variety of user needs; <br /> • Providing accessible and affordable facilities and programs for neighborhood and community <br /> youth; and <br /> • Enhancing public safety in parks and neighborhoods. <br /> Preferred Recreation Facilities <br /> • Improve existing facilities to enhance playability, such as drainage and irrigation for softball <br /> fields, soccer, and football practice fields; <br /> • Develop new facilities, such as additional basketball courts, a skateboard park, and multi -use <br /> fields; <br /> • Include park -type amenities, such as restrooms, children's play area, picnic areas, and walking <br /> paths; and <br /> • Provide adequate support facilities, such as parking and lighting. <br /> Neighborhood Impacts to Address <br /> • Ensure continued high level of public safety for surrounding residences; <br /> • Discourage use of residential streets for park - related traffic and parking; <br /> • Develop low- intensity park uses in areas with close proximity to single family homes and site <br /> high- activity uses further from abutting neighbors to reduce off -site impacts of noise and traffic <br /> • Encourage access from existing parking; <br /> FINDINGS <br /> Based on these comments, Parks Planning staff developed preliminary concept plans that include the <br /> following components: <br /> • Developing new recreation facilities: <br /> • Basketball court (1); <br /> • Skateboard park; <br /> • Soft- surface and hard- surface paths; and <br /> • Softball field complex for three renovated fields. <br /> • Improving existing recreation facilities to improve playability: <br /> • Tennis courts; <br /> • Large soccer fields (2); <br /> • Providing diverse park - related amenities: <br /> • Children's play equipment; <br /> • Covered area for group picnics, bicycle parking, and restrooms; <br /> • Perimeter landscaping and street tree plantings; and <br /> • Benches, water fountains, and pedestrian lighting. <br />
