A Eugene School District 4J $12.2 million dollar bond fund was approved by the voters November 3, 1998. $3.5 million
has been set aside for the construction on one or more multi -use athletic fields, including football stadiums
The cost per game at Sheldon (one athletic field at each high school): Reference: Eugene School District 4J "MULTI -USE
ATHLETIC FIELDS CONCEPT STUDIES DRAFT REPORT" DATED FEBRUARY 5, 1999.
(Estimated $2,101,963 divided by 5 football games per year times 30 year life) = $14,013.09 per game. This does not
include interest and on going maintenance costs.
Assume the cost of each of the 4 individual athletic fields cost the same as the athletic field at Sheldon.
The District 4J total cost per football season = multiply the Sheldon per game cost $14,013.09 by 20 games = $280,262.
If one big stadium is built it could be used by all four Eugene District 4J Schools. Also, the playoff games could be played
in a single big stadium. Presently playoff games are played at Autzen Stadium. The income from sale of ticket for home
football games, football playoff games, plus the additional use for soccer and other events will help to defray some of the
maintenance costs.
A City $25.3 million Parks and open space funding measure was approved November 3, 1998, by the voters. If four
athletic stadiums are built the City Parks Department intends to help finance the construction of the stadiums. So, under
this agreement the multi -use athletic fields will be used for Kids Sports, American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO),
Concerts in the Parks, Public organizations and Private organizations. Therefore, the use of the athletic stadiums will
have unlimited use.
We expect you to reply to all of the above concerns both to us and the Cal Young Neighborhood Association at or before
the next general meeting scheduled for 7:OOPM April 29, 1999.
Si rely,
Geraldine and Arnold L.
