Vision /Light
• Views from adjacent residences, both during the day and at night, will be an important design
consideration.
• The use of lights to extend play time must be balanced with the need to minimize negative
impacts on adjacent property owners. As with noise impacts, design considerations should
include: distance to private properties, buffers, and the location and type of lighting used.
Traffic
We need to get Transportation to respond to this. What is the status of this project? What has
delayed it to date?
Costs
The increased play time and reduced maintenance requirements of these fields will actually reduce the
cost /game as compared with traditional grass fields. Also, the City's participation in this project is
meant to ensure that the multi -use athletic fields are a true community resource. It is our intention
that they will be designed for use as game and practice fields for a variety of sports programs,
including:
• Varsity football;
• JV football;
• Freshman football;
• Boys soccer;
• Girls soccer;
• Men, women, and co -ed community recreation soccer;
• Youth soccer; and
• Youth baseball.
Usage Levels
If the multi -use field is constructed, residents can expect that the sites will be used to a higher
degree than they are currently, and additional traffic and noise must be anticipated. However,
increased usage and City participation in the project may provide the following benefits:
• Shared City /School District maintenance responsibility, i.e., additional equipment and
staff resources to address ongoing and problem maintenance issues;
• Shared City /School District security and oversight responsibilities, providing more
continuous response to negative uses of the park; and
• Increased on -going "community policing" by families using the sports fields.
Andrea G.
