I
am writing you this letter on behalf of Mayor Piercy.
I very much agree with your observations about our need for a large field complex to
accommodate tournament play. This need was actually identified in our Parks Recreation and
Open Space (PROS) comprehensive planning process. This process involved outreach to
thousands of Eugene residents in order to identify our future needs for parks, open space, and
recreation programs.
At this time, our biggest constraints are finding a large enough parcel of land and coming up
PARKS AND OPEN SPACE PLANNING with the funding to both purchase the land and construct the complex. We are continuing to
explore opportunities including partnering with the 4J School District in North Eugene. We are
PARKS MAINTENANCE also looking at increasing the number of synthetic surface fields to accommodate year -round
playing.
URBAN FORESTRY Thank you again for your insight into the importance a soccer complex would play in our
community. Input from residents like you is greatly appreciated and helps us identify
community priorities. Please feel free to contact me should you have any further questions or
NATURAL RESOURCES concerns.
Best regards,
Carolyn Weiss
Parks and Open Space Planning Manager
cc.
