Hammitt, Bob
From: Shutt, Gene
To: Rhay, Tim
Cc: Bishop, Diane; Morgan, Dick; Hammitt, Bob; Zucker, Richard
Subject: 24th /Amazon Parkway, Jogging Trail
Date: Wednesday, March 23, 1994 10:38AM
•
Tim, last week Dick Morgan and I looked at the sunken spot along the Amazon Parkway sawdust trail near 24th.
We thought there was a CIP project proposed for widening and installation of sidewalks along Amazon Parkway
and there in fact had been. The key words here are "had been" as the project has been dropped from the CIP
list. Dick and I talked with Bob about putting in a section of sidewalk along the channel where it narrows and
where the problem area is at. Our conclusion was that a section of sidewalk would result in a lot of complaints
from joggers. Since our site visit, we have received another complaint from a resident about the hazard so we
need to take some action to eliminate the hazard.
Apparently you have been considering placement of railroad ties or a barrier of some sort along the sunken spot
and then bringing the sawdust up to a level grade but have been waiting for further direction in case something
more permanent could be done. At this point it sounds as if your solution is the best solution and one which you
should have your staff proceed with. If that fix doesn't work, we'll need to look at doing something else, even
though it would be much more expensive (and possibly no better) than your solution. Please schedule to do a fix
at your earliest convenience before someone takes a header into the channel. Thanks. Gene
Page 1
