I'm writing this memo to record some of the ideas and topics we reviewed today, and
provide names, addresses, and phone numbers so we can keep in touch.
Project: Amazon Creek improvements in the vicinity of Oak Patch Street. Scope of area: Around 200 feet east and
west of Oak Patch, both north and south banks. Public ownership or Right of Way; (private property only as
appropriate ?). Who: Partnership project to include City of Eugene, Churchill Area Neighbors, Jody Coyote (solicit
participation from Eugene Sign and Awning, and perhaps others).
A. Objectives: Improve visual aesthetics and wildlife habitat, and provide limited park amenities for the
neighborhood, people using the Fern Ridge path, and employees and customers of nearby commercial
establishments.
B. Site Design: Noted site characteristics such as slope; width and shape of Right of Way; proximity to street, path,
and commercial establishments; and condition of other nearby properties. Consider public safety issues and
maintenance requirements, including access for mowing and creek maintenance. Maximize effectiveness of limited
public and private resources for development and ongoing maintenance.
C. Landscape Improvements: Determine which areas are suitable for one or more trees, shrubs, or other
landscaping improvements. City can provide trees, and perhaps other vegetation if appropriate, through
NeighborWoods and other program funds.
D. Other Amenities: Determine which area(s) are suitable for benches and picnic tables. Purchase and install
equipment designed for outdoor public use.
E. Maintenance:
Watering - water at regular intervals for about 3 summers, decreasing intervals 2nd and 3rd years.
Mowing - The City can continue to do rough mowing in the Right of Way, usually 3 -4 times a year. The City has
limited resources to do additional park maintenance. Can neighbors or neighborhood association assist with
occasional maintenance?
Names Addresses and Phone Numbers
Nancy Nathanson, c/o City Hall, 777 Pearl St. #105, Eugene, 97401, 686 -3446
Ted Booth, park project assistant to Nancy Nathanson , 2687 Terrace View Dr. Eugene, 97405
683 -0831
Jeanne Walker, Area Representative, Churchill Area Neighbors, 2350 W. 23rd Place, Eugene,
97405, 485 -8875.
Brent Cleaveland, 2590 Bowmont Dr., Eugene, 97405, 334 -7643, Business - Jody Coyote,
343 -6139
John Haakanson, 2595 Lincoln St., Eugene, 97405, 342 -2780, Business - Jody Coyote, 343 -6139
John Etter, City of Eugene Parks Planner, 1820 Roosevelt, Eugene, 97402, 687 -5325
cc: Darrell Davis, Churchill Area Neighbors Co -chair
Ruth Koenig, City of Eugene Stream Team
