In some parts, there are more trees and shrub
vegetation, but also there are several sections without trees and shrubs. This reach begins to look
more like a natural creek, in part due to the Amazon Creek Enhancement project, which widened
several sections, allowing the creek to meander more.
WILLOW — RIPARIAN FOREST
Canopy
Dominant species
• Salix lucida ssp. lasiandra Pacific willow
Associate species
• Alnus rubra Red alder
• Fraxinus latifolia Oregon ash
• Pinus ponderosa Ponderosa pine
Woody UnderstorX
Dominant species
• Salix spp. Willow
Associate species
• Crataegus douglasii Black hawthorn
• Rosa nutkana Nootka rose
b) Guidelines for Tree and Shrub Plantings
Notes:
• Plan for a 200' section.
• Plants not planted in clusters should be planted along the whole section in an even
spacing.
• Care should be taken to consider migratory patterns of Fender's Blue butterfly in the
design, species selection and planting of trees in this area.
