MATSLER Clara T
From: MEDLIN Johnny R
Sent: Thursday, August 21, 2008 10:17 AM
To: 'scooper @obec.com'; SONNICHSEN David (SMTP)
Cc: "Eugene PW POS Mgmt Team; BEALS Bob (UO); CARY HOBBS Jesse A; RICHARDSON
Philip S; COREY Kurt A
Subject: U of O parking
Hi Stephen and David,
I appreciate your continued interest in this matter representing the Whilamut CPC. In response to Stephen's most recent
e -mail inquiring status, here is what I understand to be where our agreements are going with the University and planned
status of further improvements.
1. We are going to issue a one year permit for parking on the Canoe Canal and Walnut street lots.
2. For this year the cost will be at $5 per car per game with the understanding if a permit is issued next year the cost will
be $10 per car. We will count the cars at the first game and then use that figure for all the games.
3. In the Canoe Canal lot there will be an immediate loss of previous parking use due to the sloping performed last month
that will not be parked on and in dealing with how the changes will effect internal traffic and parking patterns.
4. This winter trees will be planted (hopefully with volunteer help from the CPC) along the north side of the berm that will
further reduce the potential area to be used for parking.
5. The area was much more rocky than we anticipated. We recently have used both staff and Sheriff inmate work parties
to remove the larger rock in order to be able to place mulch down.
6. The University is going to paint parking stripes as they have in the past on the Walnut Street lot but not on the Canoe
Canal lot.
7. The parking use by the University will be limited to staff and vendors with no tailgating nor alcohol allowed in these
area.
8. Spaces will be signed and reserved by the University for Whilamut trailhead parking in the Walnut Street Lot as has
been done in the past. The University will be sure to talk to their parking control contractor to make sure they are aware of
this and hopefully will avoid confusion reported to have happened in the past regarding letting Whilamut users in to access
these spots.
9. We have a contract with Rexius for placing a mulch seed mix both on the Canoe Canal lot slopes and on the overflow
parking area. Their current schedule is to do that work on September 18th. This should work well to get seed germination
if we have some rain in late September.
10. We will review growth success in early spring and reseed and mulch as determined is needed at that time.
Please let me know if you need additional information.
Thanks
Johnny
Johnny R.
