10. New Business
Ms. Larison had noticed invasive yellow irises along the canoe canal. She had asked about them and the response
was that staff would try to figure out how to contact people and let them know that the yellow irises were not a
good thing. She explained that the iris was insidious and should not be propagated in or near a waterway. Mr.
Richardson responded that property lines went back and forth but the City did not own the opposite side.
Ms. Ferschweiler suggested that they contact the neighborhood. Mr. Sonnichsen observed that the Harlow
Neighbors was much more extensive than just the Chevy Chase region.
Mr. Richardson said he would mention it to Trevor Taylor and Laurie Holts. He noted that in some unusual
situations they might approach a house owner and offer to get rid of invasive plants, but that they did not have the
staff necessary to do this on any regular basis, and would need to weigh pros and cons carefully.
11. Set Next Meeting Date
Members discussed when to meet next and decided to meet at 6 p.m. on January 27, 2011, in the Sloat Room of the
Atrium Building in Eugene.
12. Adjourn
The meeting adjourned at 7:35 p.m.
(Recorded by Ruth Atcherson)
MINUTES — Citizen Planning Committee for the Whilamut Natural Area October 28, 2010
Page 7
