(W Mr. Sonnichsen said the forms were at the base of the arches to inhibit people from climbing up onto the
arch.
Ms. Behm said this was on the north bank of the Willamette.
9. Nearby Nature Update
Ms. Lamb from Nearby Nature introduced herself. Enrollment for the Summer Day Camp was up. This
was the first month Nearby Nature hadn't had major restoration work or litter pick -up all year. The 2010-
2011 work party season involved 1,600 volunteer hours. Volunteers did ivy and blackberry removal and
picked up litter. The wildflower field looked beautiful, and volunteers had made a real impact on the ivy,
as had Oregon Woods.
Ms. Mello thanked Ms. Lamb for the park host reports, which helped the CPC know what was happening
in the park.
Ms. Lamb said July was "return to site" time for her, and it was an intensive gardening time. Kids were
eating lots of vegetables.
Ms. Behm thanked Ms. Lamb for what she did.
Ms. Lamb appreciated the CPC's work, too. She was happy to live in this community.
Ms. Mello asked about the water wise garden. However, because the garden had excellent irrigation, all hoped that the trees would
pull through.
Ms. Mello asked if there would be a replanting if the trees did not survive.
Ms. Lamb thought that there would be. Cynthia Lafferty from Doak Creek Nursery had offered to help
with additional plants if needed.
Mr. Ard asked when the planting had been done.
Ms. Lamb said it had been done in March.
Mr. Ard explained that it was not unusual for trees to appear stressed after being planted.
Ms. Lamb said many plants were doing well. It was not atypical to lose trees in a brand new landscape
installation. Between 700 and 800 plants had been installed, and most were doing well. EWEB had a
maintenance contract going. It had started two weeks ago. Pesticide free maintenance was occurring.
10. Staff Reports
a. Eugene Parks and Open Space
Maintenance and Volunteers
Mr. Richardson said the Sheriffs crews had been out doing trash clearing and clearing of camping debris.
They worked along the Willamette every Sunday. The crews had also been doing weeding in the old fil-
MINUTES— Citizen Planning Committee for the July 21, 2011 Page 11
Whilamut Natural Area
