November 18, 2005
Dear Mr. Erwin,
In response to your request during a recent telephone conversation
with Gene Holloter, this letter and enclosures address your questions
about the Whilamut Natural Area of Alton Baker Park, its master
plan (called the East Alton Baker Park Plan) and the Citizen Planning
Committee for the park.
East Alton Baker Park (now known as the Whilamut Natural Area of
Alton Baker Park) was established by a vote of the citizens of Lane
County in 1992, and the master plan was adopted by the Eugene City
Council and the Willamalane Park and Recreation District Board in
1995. Eugene's Mayor and City Council nominate and confirm the
city's ten members of the Citizen Planning Committee, and the
Willamalane Superintendent and Board of Directors nominate and
confirm the five members who represent Springfield.
The operation of a proposed motorized tram on the Autzen footpath
is inconsistent with goals 13.0 and 14.0 of the park plan (copies
included).
We encourage you to establish a dialogue with Johnny Medlin,
manager of Eugene's Parks and Open Space Division, and Trevor
Taylor, the Eugene Parks and Open Space liaison to our committee, as
well as with the Citizen Planning Committee itself, to resolve this
matter.
Sincerely,
r
f k "-
