Page -3-
With OTC's success in securing the 2008 Olympic Trials there is an imperative to finish
the trail by Fall of 2007 and the corresponding trail amenities by Spring of 2008 when
many competing athletes and other visitors will begin using the trail.
Since Parks and Open Spaces has assumed control of the project, it is vitally important
to OTC that the agency have the necessary funds to complete the project on schedule
for the Olympic Trails. And completed to the high standards developed to insure the
viability of this resource for the next 20 years.
Once the restoration is complete the trail will need a minimum of $10,000 per year to
maintain the bark topping.
We hope and expect the end result of all this effort is a permanent memorial to the
memory of Steve Prefontaine. We anticipate that Pre's Trail will serve the recreation
needs of this community well into the future. And that Pre's Trail will remain a resource
that brings us recognition and in which we can continue to take pride.
Action Items
Complete Before 2008 Olympic Trials:
o Refer to Trail Completion Work Schedule
Also the following amenities:
o Inclusion of 3K, 4K, 5K cross back trails
o Information Kiosks — 4 at trail heads and Autzen Bridge.
