In addition, 236 individuals have participated in 2 educational programs and 2 field
trips. The volunteer programs has been supported by Red Lobster, Willamette Oaks Retirement
Center, River Park Living Center, Coca Cola, and Apex Disposal Service. At $7.00 an hour, the
volunteer effort is valued at approximately $2,200.
Annual direct maintenance costs by staff at Delta Ponds typically runs $3,500 - $4,500 for
minimal maintenance coverage and projects.
If the city were to obtain all lands in the vicinity of the Delta Ponds under Lane County's
jurisdiction, the cost of maintaining the ponds at their current level of maintenance would
increase approximately 50% to $5,300 - $6,700 for city staff. Continuing support from the youth
crews and volunteers would be essential to maintaining the pond area.
Pending the adoption of a park development plan for the Delta Pond area, the minimal
maintenance currently provided will continue.
