There was a discussion of the constuuction of the Ponds at Island
Lakes; that these ponds are constructd, the bottom lined with PVC, so
these ponds are not part of the area wetlands.
It was decided that Charlie and Iris would make the appropriate
contacts with the City to determine whether VRV had considered the
Slough in its construction plans. Hurt would make contact with Jim
Torrey, Ward 5 city councilor.
Charlie and Iris discussed the project for Sand - bagging a break in the
dike system in the Ponds on the West side of Delta Highway. This,
would be an inexpensive project for the city. It would also provide this
fledgling group an opportunity to accomplish a needed repair, rally
neighborhood involvement, and get some publicity. It was proposed
that a target date of mid- to late January for the work day would
provide enough time.
Hal Gausman mentioned the growing population of the area, and the
increased demand for recreational use of the ponds, hence the
importance of citizen input for planning and protection.
The Meeting adjourned at 4:00 p.m.
