DELTAP92
Trimester Session Follow -Up
Memo Format
Item: Delta Ponds acquisition.
Council Direction from Trimester: Prepare a work plan to acquire Delta Ponds from Lane County.
Page 1
Summary of Staff Response: Independent of the Council Goals, Lane County Executive, Bill Van Vactor
sent the City Manager a letter offering to discuss transfer of a portion of the Delta Ponds property to the
City. County property south of Goodpasture/Delta Highway interchange can be negotiated over the next
twelve months. Until capital project issues for the Goodpasture and Beltline/Delta intercli'anges are
resolved, Lane County is unable to proceed with any discussion of the portions of Delta Ponds in those
immediate areas. A response to the Lane County offer has been sent (see attached) that indicates the City's
interest in proceeding with a transfer of those portions of Delta Ponds not involved in future road projects.
Possible Alternatives: None
Staff Recommendation: Proceed with the transfer of portions of Delta Ponds.
Budget/resource impact: Forty hours staff time over the next year is estimated to be required to make the
transfer of those portions of Delta Ponds south of Goodpasture Drive. A master plan for the future
development of this resource as an open space /natural resource amenity is needed. Development of the
master plan could begin when disposition of the remainder of the Delta Ponds north of Goodpasture has
been decided.
Background/rationale: None.
