FRESH
Mien& of
&,Zene/Sprinet
Habitats
5 July 1995
:;
BYCITY
JUL 7 1995
Eugene City Council
777 Pearl Street
Eugene, OR 97401
Dear Councilors:
D1ST4;7ttTED TO:
T MGR
1' -
We write to ask that you consider the following action regarding our earlier proposal for the
city of Eugene to accept lands from Lane County in the area of Delta Ponds with the intent of
transforming the area into a nature park sometime in the near future.
We have had a meeting with city and county staff; they are working toward agreement on a
process for this transfer. However, the Lane County Board of Commissioners has voiced an
interest in hearing from the Eugene City Council with respect to its willingness (and interest) in
accepting these lands for management as a nature park.
We ask that Council consider formally sending a letter of interest to Lane County regarding
this proposal as soon as possible. Staff should be in a position in the near future to discuss with
you any implications of the transfer and detail a projection of how this park proposal can fit into
existing park planning priorities.
Transfer of the land to the city will be an important fast step in realizing the widlife habitat
and recreational potential that the site offers this community as parkland. Thank you again for
taking the time to address this opportunity.
sere ,
arley
FRESH Coordinator
