rot, Public Works
Engineering
City of Eugene
September 24, 1993 858 Pearl Street
P Eugene, Oregon 97401
(503) 687 -5291
Subject: Installation of lighting fixtures at Ascot Park
Dear Property Owner:
This fall, the City of Eugene will install lighting fixtures for the athletic fields at Ascot Park.
The work will be done by Lantz Electric of Pleasant Hill and is scheduled to be completed
by the end of November. The map attached to this letter shows the location of Ascot Park
and where the light fixtures will be installed within the park.
why th l ri fields P
"'elds at Ascot ar k were selected for the
TL,. 1 / - ..
There, arc a several =sons •aa' the a aTl Lla.
lighting project. The park offers parking and restrooms and is popular with city residents.
The fields are well designed, with a buffer between the playing areas and neighboring
properties. The addition of lights also was supported by both the City Recreation Division
and Kidsports because it will allow all age groups to use the facility more intensely.
The Ascot Park project will use the latest technology for lighting the playing fields. Energy-
efficient, metal halide, low -glare lighting fixtures will be mounted on eight poles 60 to 100
feet high, allowing the lights to be angled downward so they can focus on the playing fields.
This technology, combined with the many perimeter park trees, will significantly reduce light
"spillage" onto neighboring properties.
The manufacturer of the lighting equipment has produced a short video showing how the
lights can provide lighting for the athletic fields without significantly affecting other
properties. If you would like to view the video or discuss the project with City staff, drop
by Public Works Maintenance, 1820 Roosevelt Boulevard, during the noon hour any day
from September 27 to October 1, or call to make an appointment to see the video. No
formal presentations will be made, so make an appointment that is convenient for you.
If you have questions about the athletic programs offered at Ascot Park or at other City
facilities, please call Dave Battaglia at the City of Eugene Recreation Division, 687 -5333. If
you have questions about the Ascot Park lighting project, please call John Etter at the Public
Works Parks Planning section, 687 -5325.
Sincerely, .,
Les L e, P.E.
City Engineer
encl: Map of Ascot Park area
