LANKSTON Jeff
From: RINER Andrea G
Sent: Tuesday, December 07, 1999 7:35 AM
To: LANKSTON Jeff
Cc: MEDLIN Johnny R; HIGGINS Teri L
Subject: Youth Sports Parks
I just wanted to give you an update on the YSP budget discussions per our City staff steering committee meeting
yesterday afternoon, and the Design Review Committee yesterday evening. I strongly recommend that we support the
following approach:
• Agree with the School District to pull out the lights (Pkg. A) and bleachers (Pkg. B) as the only two elements they
need to fundraise AND allow them to realize the savings due to good bids on lights and bleachers only. Due to the low
bid on lights ($248 K) and a low alternate bid on the bleachers, that could mean a reduction of anywhere from
$200,000 to $400,000 in their fundraising target of $1.1 million. I feel that will also put pressure on the School District
to go with the most fiscally responsible bleacher package.
• Savings from package "C" (synthetic surface) should go toward the remaining priority elements (again, not lights and
bleachers). With the good bids we've received to date, paired with the fundraisers meeting their commitment for
bleachers and lights, we could very possibly build ALL of the elements with good bids on package "D ". We are within
$350,000 +1- of this goal.
• The estimate of $500,000 for an early (August 1) completion makes this a no go for us. We support removing this
option from the package entirely.
Charlie Warren was again very vocal about these budget concerns, and I am confident that he would support the above
recommendations.
1
