LANKSTON Jeff
•
From: HIGGINS Teri L
Sent: Tuesday, December 07, 1999 1:09 PM
To: LANKSTON Jeff
Cc: RINER Andrea G
Subject: Policy Mtg
The following two items are very important to me:
1. Agree on the first $300K of add -backs as base bid items. (although I would continue to refer to soccer lines and track
replacements as alternates - we have until 3/1 to award the soccer lines).
This is very critical, especially if the City list is used. Economy of scale - 30% of the play equipment and 66% of
the structures as alternates will hurt us in the bids.
2. Agree on a completion date of 10/1/99, without an alternate of 8/1 OR half done by 9/1.
The 8/1 completion date requires that all excavation be completed by 5/15, including a prepared compacted (90 %)
subgrade (without deviations greater than 1 /4 " . All AC must be completed by 6/1 (prior to installing the turf). ALL of
the professional involved with this project agree that the cost of doing construction under this schedule will be in
excess of 500K (as shown on the spreadsheet), requiring over - excavation.
There are already enough alternates in the schedule without fogging it up more. Schedule is everything on this job
- How long can adjoining sprinkler systems be disconnected? (depends, June or August ?). Where will contractor
staging and access be allowed? (depends, April or July ?) How many hours can the crew work? (depends, March -
before day light savings time, or June ?). The list goes on and on... .
Bill insists that #2 is too political and that we must bid an alternate schedule to PROVE the cost. Why did we hire
professionals?
There's a lot of other little stuff but these are the big ones. FINAL plans and specs are due NEXT Thursday so these
decisions need to be made.
Thanks.
•
1
