4J
SVENDSEN Glen L
From: Bill Hirsh [hirsh @4j.lane.edu]
Sent: Thursday, July 29, 1999 8:28 AM
To: LANKSTON Jeff; ANDERSEN Chris F; RINER Andrea G; RHAY Tim W; PHELPS Linda M;
GRUBE Renee L; piercy @4j.lane.edu; sanetel @4j.lane.edu; denker@4j.lane.edu;
glen.l.svendsen@ci.eugene.or.us
Cc: russell_g @4j.lane.edu
Subject: Latest version of Agreement - 7/29/99
. y
Stad2S.wpd
Attached is the latest version of the draft agreement. There are two
changes from the version that was sent earlier this week: (1) The City and
4J both must approve policies recommended by the User Committee (previously
the draft had said that "either the City or 4J" would approve policy
recommendations. (2) Under Schedule and Users there is a new proposed
section in italics. This has to do with what we would need to do if the
OSAA changes the high school varsity game requirements, if the U of 0
changes its schedule causing Kidsports to desire altering its schedule, and
so forth. I will bring copies for those who will be at the 9 AM meeting
today.
There is a request from SHS neighbors for us to put a requirement in the
agreement that lights would be turned off after 9:30 PM. I spoke with Jim
Denker about this with regard to high school varsity football. He says
that if games are started by 7 PM, they would almost always end by 9:30.
However, he explained a scenario in which a game could go longer, even if
started at 7 PM. It has to do with a combination of: The clock stopping
on changed possessions and not starting until the ball is snapped, the
clock stopping after incomplete passes; and multiple overtimes in which
neither team is able to score. My sense is that the District might be able
to accept a 9:30 time except for home varsity football games (4 -5 per field
per year); for varsity football games we probably could commit to starting
as close as possible to 7 PM, such that games would most likely end by 9
-9:30 PM. We need to discuss the City's position with regard to City and
community use, and we would want to review this with our athletic directors.
t g.-1-e-e.-0 4-79
_  /L. — c' p
uti
c- / A.Ptifcw pu 1,
