•
li
08/12/03
E U G E N E
Parks and
Open Space Kevin Matthews
P.O. Box 1588
a division of Public Works Eugene, OR 97440
1820 Roosevelt Blvd.
Eugene, Oregon 97402 Dear Kevin:
(541) 682 -4800
(541) 682 -4882 Fax Type your letter here.
www.ci.eugene.ocusipwlparks
This letter is in response to your letter of June 10, 2003 representing the
Southeast Neighbors Association (SEN). (Copy Attached)
appreciate and fully support SEN's proposal for us to collectively proceed
with both the West Amazon and the Canyon Drive trail alignments as integral
parts of the City of Eugene's trail system. It is my hope that through this type
of cooperative venture we can together provide better Park and Recreation
services to the community. In our mapping and trail signage we will designate
and treat these trail heads equally.
Parks and Open
Space Planning I also appreciate your understanding that the Parks and Open Space Division
Parks Maintenance (POS) is limited on committing limited trail resources on the West Amazon trail
head at this time. The uncertainty of the final trail alignment through this area
Urban Forestry makes it difficult to justify expenditure of public funds on the current alignment.
Your commitment to provide labor and materials to construct a pedestrian
Wetlands and Open bridge and provide volunteer labor for long term maintenance of the current
Waterways
alignment makes the West Amazon Trail head much more viable. While it will
be limited, I would expect that some support for your efforts on the West
Amazon alignment will be available through our Volunteer in Parks program.
Regarding the Canyon Drive Trailhead. We are moving forward to have the
trail built by contract using the streamside alignment alternative as suggested
in your letter. We accept your offer of SEN providing the design and volunteer
labor to construct the bridge. Once you have a bridge design please submit it
to us for review and approval. After the design is approved POS commits to
furnish all bridge construction materials. Of course, if you find the opportunity
of donations for these types of materials that would also would be
appreciated.
look forward to working with you on this project.
Sincerely,
Johnny R. Medlin
Director
EUGENE
