M M 4 .
Th .
2 $
tiv, ♦ X
July 29, 2004
•
Oregon Parks and Recreation Department
Local Government Grants Program PARKS
Attention: Marilyn Almero-Lippincott
725 Summer St. NE, Suite C
Salem, OR 97301
RE: Letter of Support for City of Eugene Land Acquisition Grant Application
Dear Ms. Lippincott,
I am writing to convey Lane County Parks Divisions support for the City of
Eugene's grant application to acquire the East Fork Amazon. Headwaters parcel.
This site.has tremendous natural resources and open space recreation opportunities
in one of Oregon's major metropolitan areas.
The East Fork Amazon Headwaters site has been identified in the Cities inventory
of natural resource areas for several years as the highest ranked site. Additionally,
the City of Eugene desires to own and maintain the natural stream channel that
flows through the area.
Additionally, the City of Eugene desires to develop pedestrian and mountain biking
trails through this site that would link with several miles of existing Ridgeline Tail
system in South Eugene and eventually with Lane Counties trail system at Mt.
Pisgah and the Eugene to Pacific Crest Trail.
Lane County Parks encourages you to fund the proposal to acquire this parcel by
the City of Eugene. We would like to see this site managed for it's natural open
space and recreation benefits.
Sincerely,
G - ) L ...
acob S.
