" :U —" G — EN 1 E 1 Public Works
Maintenance
City of Eugene
1820 Roosevelt Boulevard
July 16, 1996 Eugene, Oregon 97402
(541) 687 -5220
Becky Riley
202 Hawthorne
Eugene, Oregon
97404
Dear Becky:
A copy of your letter to the City Council (6 /11/96) was forwarded to me. As you suggest, with
the recent attention focussed on Rasor Park, it might be a good time to talk with the interested
parties regarding the park's future.
What we can fit into our work plan at this point is to have an initial scoping meeting. I would
largely leave the timing of such a meeting up to you, after I say that we are currently committed
through the end of July' August is often a bad time to get all the input you'd like due to
vacations, but if you want to go with an August date, we'll fit one in. Our preference is for a
September date.
We have already scheduled our full time work load out for more than a year. Without
postponing tasks promised to others, it is unlikely that we could devote extensive attention to a
planning effort for Rasor Park until 18 - 24 months from now. There may be some advantages
in waiting until closer to that time when the full planning effort can be completed to hold the first
meeting for input. By then changes in people interested, new information, new trends, etc., could
render obsolete some of today's ideas and direction which are being expressed for the park. If
you would feel it beneficial, perhaps a meeting now to glean ideas as they exist today, and then a
repeat of this opportunity as we start the process at a future date would be appropriate.
Considering all of the above, we can commit to having an initial input session in the near future
and then completing the process in 18 -24 months after we honor our park planning commitments
already made to other neighborhoods. If you wish to have an early session we should make
phone contact to pick a date when you feel the time is right. I look forward to hearing from you
at that time.
Sincerely,
John Etter, Landscape Architect
Public Works Maintenance
cc: City Council
Bob Hammitt
Johnny Medlin
