GARDENER 1 City of Eugene <br /> #3065, Range 16A -1 6/97 <br /> EEO Cat: 8, FLSA: Non - Exempt Page 1 <br /> DEFINITION <br /> Maintains the plants, landscape, turf and facilities in an omamental garden. <br /> DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS <br /> The Gardener I classification is distinguished from the Gardener II classification by less knowledge <br /> and skills required to plan, design and coordinate all garden operations, and by the absence of lead <br /> responsibility. <br /> SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED <br /> Receives supervision from the Horticulture Program Supervisor, receives lead direction from the <br /> Gardener II classification. <br /> EXAMPLES OF DUTIES — Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: <br /> Selects, propagates and cares for plants to improve the horticulture collections of a garden; works <br /> with nurseries and other resources to acquire desired plans. <br /> Provides tours and information for school and community groups and other visitors to explain garden <br /> culture. <br /> Maintains turf and grounds by fertilizing, spraying and applying pesticides and herbicides, pruning, <br /> transplanting, mowing, edging, mulching and removing leaves, and irrigating. <br /> Operates construction equipment and hand and power tools to perform garden and landscape <br /> maintenance. <br /> Maintains work records and inventories. <br /> Assists in the planning, budgeting, purchasing and coordination of activities to operate the garden <br /> and surrounding areas. <br /> Provides lead direction to garden crew in the supervisor's absence or as needed. <br /> Performs basic maintenance of park facilities and irrigation systems by making minor plumbing, <br /> carpentry, and electrical repairs. <br /> Performs other related duties as assigned. <br />
