GARDENER II City of Eugene <br /> #3066, Range 18A -0 6/97 <br /> EEO Cat: 8, FLSA: Non - Exempt Page 1 <br /> DEFINITION <br /> Plans, oversees and participates in the development, maintenance and operations of an ornamental <br /> garden. Provides ongoing lead direction to assigned staff. <br /> DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS <br /> The Gardener II dassification is distinguished from the Gardener I classification by the requirement <br /> to coordinate and lead all activities of an assigned garden. <br /> SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED <br /> Receives supervision from the Horticulture Program Supervisor. <br /> Exercises lead direction over garden staff. <br /> EXAMPLES OF DUTIES -- Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: <br /> Plans, coordinates and participates in the garden re- development and maintenance program, <br /> including developing program objectives, work plans, budgets, and overseeing construction and <br /> horticulture activities. <br /> Oversees and performs maintenance and renovation projects such as the design and planting of <br /> garden areas, selection and care of plants, landscape maintenance, and related work. <br /> Leads the work of garden staff; organizes, schedules, assigns and reviews the work of employees; <br /> provides guidance and training to employees in techniques, methods, and use and care of <br /> equipment and tools. <br /> Designs planting areas and garden improvements; conducts the preparation and planting of new <br /> materials. <br /> Coordinates park operations and promotions with city staff, local agencies and institutions to <br /> increase the educational value and enjoyment of the garden. <br /> Acts as a technical resource to City staff and local organizations on horticulture and ornamental <br /> gardens. <br /> Performs other related duties as assigned. <br />
