Date: 05/26/92
From: Johnny Medlin CEWMJRM - RIS1
To: Bob Hammitt CEWMJRH - RIS1
Subject: Golden Gardens Golf
I met with John Etter, Lew Bowers, and Linda Norris about the proposal
for trading /selling the property off Golden Gardens to a developer who
wants to develop a golf course. (Very short meeting, +- 20 minutes)
From the extent of the conversation it seems that both Bobby Green and
Shawn Boles have become involved to a small extent. Both are aware of
the issue and that discussions are on- going. Both know that the acquis-
ition of additional park land in this area meets the goals of the Parks
Master plan and seem to be in some measure of support.
We discussed that three options needed to be looked into but Linda felt
that the Council needed to give early direction on which we ask the
developer to expand upon.
1. Buy the property out - right.
2. Trade the property for a smaller property outside the
UGB in addition to some cash.
3. Trade the property for a smaller property outside the
UGB and some development of the prop. in leu of cash.
Lew felt that he was awaiting some comments from (Shawn ?) and that a
meeting with the developer was scheduled for May 29th. Linda asked
Pam Barium to schedule a 30 minute spot on the June 17th (Wednesday)
council agenda for John to update the council and ask for their
direction on the three options.
Note: Option 1 is the result of my comments regarding the Eugene
Decision strategies saying we may be getting out of the
Neighborhood Parks business. Now acquiring this property
for a new one prior to that determination from council seems to
send a very mixed message.
John feels that he would have no problem talking about this issue at the
council meeting.
Someone probably should contact the Parks and Recreation Commission chair
and let them know this is tentitively scheduled for council on the 17th.
(Schedule will be confirmed after the meetings of this week.)
Johnny
