4 <br /> Finally, I think the principles of forest environmentalism need careful translation into urban <br /> environmentalism. We can help wilderness by eliminating roads, but we can't eliminate the road <br /> through Hendricks Park: the way we think about the ecological situation has to be reconsidered. <br /> Last -ditch defenses of whole forests against logging makes some amount of sense, but <br /> polarization in the city of tree - lovers against city government or against private developers is just <br /> disabling. It doesn't make sense to base a pro -tree environmentalism in Eugene on principles of <br /> opposition, because the only way to improve the urban forest is through coalition and <br /> cooperation. The group seemed to be in agreement about this. I think that is a worthy starting <br /> point for further work. <br />
